Censor an image

Drop a screenshot or a photo: emails, phone and card numbers, IBANs and API keys are found and covered with a black bar straight away. Drag your own bars over anything else. Free, in your browser: no upload, no account, no watermark.

100% local — the image never leaves your device.

How it works

  1. Drop, paste or pick an image — a screenshot, a photo of a document, a chat you want to share.

  2. The text is read on your device, and emails, numbers and keys get a black bar in a few seconds.

  3. Drag bars over anything else, switch to blur or pixelate if you prefer, then download a PNG.

What to censor before you share

Most leaks in screenshots are not secrets anyone meant to share — they are details nobody noticed. Look for:

  • Contact details

Emails, phone numbers and names in chats, tickets, invoices and CRM screens.

  • Money

Card numbers, IBANs and account details on statements, receipts and checkout pages.

  • Keys and tokens

API keys, passwords and session tokens in terminals, dashboards and config files.

  • People and places

Faces, house numbers and plates in photos — press Find faces, or drag a bar over anything else.

Black bar, blur or pixelate?

For text, only the black bar is safe. We blurred, pixelated and covered sensitive text 480 times and tried to read it back: light blur gave the exact text back in 92–100% of cases and 4-pixel pixelation in 71%. The solid bar leaked nothing.

That is why the bar is the default here. Blur and pixelate are still one click away for faces and backgrounds, where looks matter — use them at a high strength.

Why nothing gets uploaded

A censoring site that uploads your screenshot has already seen everything you meant to hide. Here the text is read by an OCR engine running in your browser and the bars are drawn on a canvas. The PNG you download is a new file: the pixels under each bar are gone, not kept on a layer underneath.

Hiding people rather than text? The face blur tool finds every face. For a whole picture in blocks, pixelate the image.

Censoring your screen, not a screenshot?

Hide emails, names and numbers on the live page before you share your screen or record — one click in the browser, and nothing to clean up afterwards.

FAQ

No. Reading the text, covering it and exporting all happen in your browser. The text recognition engine is downloaded from this site once; your image never leaves your device.

Email addresses, phone numbers, card numbers (checked with the Luhn algorithm), IBANs, US Social Security numbers and API keys or tokens, in Latin script. Names and street addresses are not detected — drag a bar over those yourself. Faces are found by the Find faces button, also on your device.

No. The bar replaces the pixels in the exported PNG, so there is no layer underneath and nothing for an image editor to peel off. Check the result before you share it all the same: the tool only covers what it finds and what you draw.

Because blurred text can often be read back. In our study, light blur gave the exact text back in 92–100% of attempts. Blur is fine for faces and backgrounds; for text, use a bar.

Yes. It is a regular web page, so it runs in Safari or Chrome on your phone. Reading the text of a large screenshot can take a few seconds on older devices.

Free, with no sign-up and no watermark. JPG, PNG and WebP open directly; iPhone HEIC photos usually need converting first. The result downloads as a PNG.
