Blur the background of a photo
Drop a photo: the people in it are found on your device and everything behind them is blurred, like a portrait lens. Set the strength, or flip it and blur the people instead. Free, no upload, no account, no watermark.
100% local — the photo never leaves your device.
How it works
Drop, paste or pick a photo — a portrait, a selfie, a group shot, a still from a video call.
The people are found on your device and everything behind them is blurred in a second or two.
Adjust the strength, or switch to People to blur them and keep the scene. Then download a PNG.
Why blur a background
Two reasons: to make the subject stand out, and to hide what is behind them. The usual cases:
Portraits
Profile pictures, headshots and team photos where a busy background pulls the eye away.
Your home
The room, the shelves and the view from the window behind you in a selfie or a call screenshot.
Work
Whiteboards, screens and documents behind someone in an office or event photo.
Places
Street signs, house numbers and landmarks that tell people where a photo was taken.
Is a blurred background private enough?
For a messy room, yes. For writing, not always: a whiteboard or a screen behind you can sometimes be read back through a light blur. In our study of blurred text, small blur radii gave the exact text back in 92–100% of cases, so push the strength up when there is text in the background.
The mask follows people, not every strand of hair: check the outline, especially around hands and anything held. And blurring the people is not the same as hiding a face — for that, use the face blur tool.
Why nothing gets uploaded
Background blur sites usually upload your photo and run a model on their server. Here the person-segmentation model, MediaPipe's selfie segmenter of about 250 KB, is downloaded once from this site and runs in your browser. The photo is processed on your device, and the PNG you download carries none of its metadata.
Hiding faces rather than a background? Use the face blur tool, and remove the metadata of any original you send on.
Sharing your screen, not a photo?
Blur names, emails and whole panels on the live page before a screen share or a recording — one click in the browser.
